Below I am going to share with you my journey, tips + tricks that have helped me, and how you can THRIVE and feel CONFIDENT in yourself this holiday season!
5+ years ago the holidays would stress me out. Unfortunately, I did not have the best mindset around food and often felt like I needed to "earn" my food by working out. I struggled with feeling confident in my body and didn't have the knowledge of how to eat well while also enjoying my favorite foods. Over the past 5 years, or what I like to call the "messy middle", is the part not everyone talks about. It's not the prettiest part and no one puts this on their social media. You struggle, you fall, you get back up, you fall again, you put pressure on yourself, but in the end, you never give up.
I want to remind you: it’s okay if every choice isn’t perfect. Life is about balance, and the holidays are no exception. My goal as your health and wellness coach is to help you navigate this season with confidence, self-compassion, and actionable strategies that keep you feeling your best.
Plan Ahead: Before attending holiday gatherings, have a light snack. This will prevent you from wanting to overindulge in treats and cookies when you're there.
Allow Yourself ALL Foods: This may sound counter intuitive from the one above, but the minute you begin to tell yourself "I can't have that", it will make you want it that much more, leading to overindulging.
Balance Your Plate: Opt for a well-balanced plate filled with protein, veggies, and whole grains. This will help you enjoy your meal and feel full & satisfied after.
Healthy Swaps: Transform traditional holiday dishes into healthier versions. Opt for whole foods and healthy cooking oils (olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil). Bring your own dish to a get-together if you aren't sure what they will be serving.
The holidays often stir up emotions—some joyful, others stressful. Emotional eating can creep in when we’re overwhelmed or nostalgic. Recognizing and addressing these feelings can help.
Identify Triggers: Recognize situations or emotions that trigger emotional eating, such as stress, sadness, or social pressure. Awareness is the first step.
Redirect your Energy: Instead of reaching for a treat, try drinking water, walking, journaling, or calling a friend. These alternatives provide comfort without compromising your health goals.
Practice Gratitude: Try journaling and listing what you are grateful for and how you can continue to put these things first each day.
The holidays can feel like there's no time for exercise, but movement can be incorporated in so many different ways and doesn't have to take long! It could be a family walk, dancing to your favorite tunes, or a quick home workout.
Sneak in Activity: Invite your family for a post-dinner walk, start your morning with a quick run, or even dance around the kitchen while preparing meals. Every bit counts!
Try Something New: This season, experiment with activities like hot yoga, hiking (yes, in the cold!), or holiday-themed workout classes. Novelty can add excitement and motivation.
The season is about giving, but don’t forget to give to yourself. Protect your energy and prioritize what matters most to you.
Say No When Needed: It’s okay to decline invitations or delegate tasks if it means protecting your peace.
Create a Relaxing Routine: Carve out time each day for something that recharges you—whether it’s reading, taking a hot shower, or a fun skincare routine.
As the year comes to an end, it's a great way to reflect on the year and set goals and intentions for the year ahead. Let's not wait until January 1st!
